Visit of the Bundeswehr in Vienna

On November 20, 2023, the Austria Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES) welcomed cadre personnel from the Mountain Infantry Battalion 231, who were on a trip to Vienna for political training.
AIES Research Fellow Ulf Steindl gave a lecture to the group on the development of relations and cooperation between the EU and NATO. The lecture covered the historical development of relations, the formalization in the framework of the three joint EU-NATO declarations since 2016 and the intensified dynamics since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Mr. Steindl also presented a framework for the conceptualization of cooperation. The presentation was supplemented by a discussion with the participants and an excursion on the topic of "Austria's neutrality".
