From 29th of August to 2nd of September, the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES) was represented at the European Forum Alpbach 2023 (EFA23) by Director Michael Zinkanell, Research Fellow Christoph Schwarz, and Associate Fellow Adam Urosevic.

Apart from experiencing inspiring interactions and debates on a Bold Europe, this year’s motto of the EFA23, the AIES team also contributed to the Forum with input and moderation.

Michael Zinkanell moderated the hiking session "War and Peace in the Digital Age", in which the impact of digital technologies on future conflicts was discussed and the potential for digital peacebuilding explored with the excellent speakers Claudia Meier, Andrea Renda, and Leo Docherty.

An additional highlight was the presentation of a preview of the most recent AIES-study on Austria’s neutrality, based on the in-depth analysis conducted by colleagues Christoph Schwarz and Adam Urosevic, during the hike session "Time for a “Zeitenwende” in Austria?". Against this thematic background, the Austrian/German Zeitenwende and the implications of the Russian invasion of Ukraine were discussed with Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Franz-Stefan Gady, Dr. Jana Puglierin, Matthew Karnitschnig, and many more.

The AIES wants to extend its thanks and gratitude to all the organisers for their efforts, dedication, and the countless meaningful conversations and meetings.
