Nick Nieschalke, B.A.
AIES Research Fellow

Nick Nieschalke joined the Austria Institute for European and Security Policy in February 2023 and primarily focuses on the Indo-Pacific as well as European and Austrian China relations in his work. Most recently he co-authored the Austrian chapter of the 2024 report on National Perspectives on Europe’s De-Rsiking from China by the European Think-tank Network on China (ETNC).
During his studies of East Asian Economy and Society at the University of Vienna he predominantly concentrated on security issues related to China, ASEAN and the larger Indo-Pacific. In this context, his master thesis is dealing with small states’ alignment in the face of great power rivalry.
Nick Nieschalke completed his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Chinese language at the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau during which he spent two semesters at Nanjing University, and subsequently worked at a UK-based business consultancy specializing on China.
