Visit to the EU Monitoring Mission in Tbilisi

The AIES team visited the Caucasus state of Georgia from September 11 to 13 as part of a research trip on EU CSDP missions. The focus was on the activities of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) at the administrative boundary line to South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The team of AIES experts gained valuable insights into the work of EUMM, the different challenges for the mission, as well as the current situation in the areas not controlled by Tbilisi. This encompassed exchanges with high-ranking representatives and experts at the mission headquarters in Tbilisi, as well as insights into the work of the observers in the field. The visit to EUMM was further complemented by meetings with stakeholders from the public administration and the civil society .
