The AIES study Between Principle and Pressure: European Perspectives on Austrian Neutrality is based on a comprehensive survey of more than 100 foreign and security policy experts from 24 European countries. It offers a unique external perspective on the relevance, credibility, and future viability of Austrian neutrality, particularly in the context of European Union (EU) membership. The findings present a clear and critical assessment: a majority of experts view Austria’s neutrality as facing strategic and normative challenges, with its relevance in today’s international environment increasingly subject to debate.
