The war in Ukraine and the emerging global power structures

On Thursday, January 26, 2023, the Austria Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES) organised an expert discussion on the war in Ukraine and the emerging power structures moderated by Roland Adrowitzer. Colonel Markus Reisner presented the developments of Russia’s invasion in the Ukraine since February 24, 2022 highlighting the different phases from the initial attack on Kiev to the current assault by Russia on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. Afterwards, Dr Werner Fasslabend spoke about the future consequences of the war on global structures, especially the power dynamics in Europe.
The two presentations were followed by a discussion with questions from the audience regarding future scenarios within the war, and the role of military aid by Western countries, Additionally, the possibilities for the European Union in the field of security policy were discussed as well as the new geopolitical role of Poland.
