
Economic Aspects of the War in Ukraine

On January 11, 2024, the Austria Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES) organized its first event of the year on the premises of the AIES. The institute hosted Professor Anders Åslund, a renowned expert on economic transition with strong expertise on the Ukrainian and Russian economies. Professor Åslund gave a lecture titled “Economic and Financing Aspects of the War in Ukraine for Europe and the US”. He put a focus on the resilience of the Ukrainian economy, prospects of Western support and the future growth potential for Ukraine, as well as assessed the war economies in both Ukraine in Russia. The lecture was followed by a discussion with the audience. AIES Board Member and Senior Advisor Ambassador Dr. Martin Sajdik gave the opening remarks and AIES President Dr. Fasslabend moderated the discussion.
