Ukraine: Is the war about to be decided?
A lecture by Lieutenant General Hofbauer and Major General Dr Vorhofer

On 13 June 2024, the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES), in cooperation with the Vienna School of International Studies (DA), hosted the event "Ukraine: Is the war about to be decided"?
Lieutenant General Hofbauer (Deputy Chief of the General Staff) and Major General Dr Vorhofer (Head of the Directorate of Defence Policy and International Relations) were invited to speak. They gave detailed assessments of the European defence strategy and the course of the war in Ukraine since 2022, with a particular focus on the threat posed to European security by the multiplex Russian warfare. In his presentation, Major General Dr Vorhofer emphasised the dangers and the necessary steps that Europe must take to ensure its security and that these could only be taken from within a united Europe. Lieutenant General Hofbauer gave a detailed account of the course of the war in Ukraine and its potential impact on the West.
The event was moderated by Dr Fasslabend (AIES President), who concluded by summarising the most important findings from the presentations and also gave guests the opportunity to ask the speakers questions
