Strategic Dialogue with Richard Weitz
Great Powers and Transatlantic Relations
May 21, 2026 / Vienna / European Security and Defence / Indo-Pacific
On May 21, the AIES hosted a strategic dialogue on bilateral relations between major powers and their implications for transatlantic security with Richard Weitz, senior fellow and director of the Center for Political-Military Analysis at Hudson Institute. The exchange largely focused on various dimensions of transatlantic relations as well as great power competition and their implications for the diplomatic, economic, and security spheres.
The discussion underscored yet again that European economic and security planning must account for shifting power dynamics as a structural feature of the international environment, rather than reacting to a seemingly temporary development.
