AIES Presentation at the Scientific Commission of the Austrian Ministry of Defence
presented by AIES Director Michael Zinkanell
Mar 21, 2025 / Vienna / European Security and Defence / Global Affairs
AIES Director Michael Zinkanell delivered a keynote speech during a board meeting of the Strategic and Security Policy Advisory Board of the Scientific Commission of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defence. As a member of the Strategic and Security Policy Advisory Board, Michael Zinkanell spoke about the second term of U.S. President Donald Trump and the implications of the new American leadership for transatlantic relations.
With regard to the form and substance of the first two months of Trump’s second presidency, Zinkanell identified clear fault lines in the shaping of U.S. policy toward Europe. Against this backdrop, the member states of the European Union are called upon to invest more heavily in their own security and defence autonomy and to assume greater responsibility.
