Security Challenges for Pakistan
Extremism, climate change and the wider region

On February 6, 2024, the Austrian Institute for Europe and Security Policy (AIES) hosted Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri for a discussion on "Key Security Challenges for Pakistan and the Wider Region including Extremism and Climate Change Implications". Professor Dr. Hussain is Deputy Chairman of Minhaj University Lahore, President of Minhaj-ul-Quran International and Chairman of Minhaj Education Society.
Professor Dr. Hussain talked about current challenges and issues faced by Pakistan. He highlighted the country's economic disparities, political instability, terrorism, law and order problems, ethnic tensions, and educational shortcomings. He also touched upon external threats and conflicts, including tensions with India, Afghanistan, and Iran, as well as the presence of extremist groups. Professor Dr. Hussain emphasized the need for international cooperation and a more tailored approach to governance in Pakistan, suggesting the possibility of a stable, long-term national government to address these challenges effectively.
