AIES Director Zinkanell spoke about the democratic political dangers of disinformation

At the end of March, AIES Director Michael Zinkanell gave a lecture at the office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Multilateral Dialogue Vienna, on the dangers of disinformation in terms of democracy and security policy. Especially against the background of the “super election year” 2024, disinformation campaigns are a serious threat to the stability and liberal principles of democratic states. Therefore, the intentional creation and dissemination of false information with the aim of weakening societies or weakening trust in political institutions can be seen as an attack on democracy. In his presentation, Michael Zinkanell specifically addressed the younger generation and discussed several cases of disinformation that were created through the use of artificial intelligence and represent a new dimension of disinformation.
