AIES Workshop with the Australian Embassy

On October 20, 2023, the Austria Institute for European and Security Policy in cooperation with the Australian Embassy in Austria hosted an exclusive workshop on the Indo-Pacific. At the invitation of the AIES, Dr. Heribert Dieter, Senior Fellow at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin and Associate Professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Bengaluru, India, presented his expertise. Ambassador Ian Biggs welcomed the participating experts and AIES Director Michael Zinkanell moderated the discussion.
Dr. Dieter gave a detailed presentation on the dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region with special attention to the great power politics of China and India. The ensuing discussion delved deeper into the opportunities and challenges of current dynamics. Special attention was given to the role of the European Union, as well as demographic change and the domestic politics of individual states in the region.
