On December 2, 2024, the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES), in collaboration with the Vienna School of International Studies (DA) and the Embassy of India in Vienna, hosted a high-profile event titled “India’s Global Role.” The discussion centered on India’s evolving foreign policy, its strategic partnerships, and its geostrategic significance in the current global context.

The event began with a thematic introduction by Dr. Werner Fasselabend, President of the AIES, followed by a keynote speech delivered by Ambassador Shambhu S. Kumaran, Permanent Representative of India to the UN in Vienna. His address focused on “India’s Foreign Policy in the Face of Current Developments.”

The panel featured insights from prominent experts **Richard Ghiasy (**Leiden University Asia Centre) and **Christian Wagner (German Institute for International and Security Affairs) and was moderated by the AIES director Michael Zinkanell

The discussions delved into India’s increasing global influence, the complexities of its bilateral and multilateral relations, and its pivotal role in shaping international norms.

The event concluded with a lively Q&A session, allowing participants to engage directly with the panelists on these critical issues.
