The AIES at the GLOBSEC 2024 Forum
AIES Research Fellow Dr. Livia Benko at the GLOBSEC Forum 2024 in Prague

Dr. Livia Benko, Research Fellow at the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES) attended this year’s GLOBSEC 2024 Forum in Prague, Czech Republic. The Forum took place from 30th of August to 1st of September, with more than 2300 participants from up to 80 countries and over 200 speakers who „helped tame the storm that is the current international landscape“.
One of the key speakers was Commission President Ursula von der Leyen who commended Central and Eastern Europe for its economic dynamism and competitiveness, but notably for its clairvoyance regarding Russia. President von der Leyen also touched upon what Russia's actions mean for the EU, especially when it comes to energy security and defence spending.
The Forum held debates on various up to date topics ranging from Disinformation, to Defence, Economy, Enlargement, Democracy, Freedom of Media, Energy dependence, geo-politics and of course dealt with the pressing issue of the war in Ukraine.
