On 18 September 2024, the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES) organised a workshop in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defence (BMLV) on the subject of ‘A Geopolitical Union? An Assessment of the European Union as a global player at the end of the 2019-2024 legislative period’. The discussion, moderated by Research Fellow Christoph Schwarz, explored the current role of the European Union and the success of its foreign policy in the midst of changing global power relations.
The expert panel consisted of Dr. Heidrun Maurer (Senior Scientist at the University of Krems), Dr. Pierre Haroche (Associate Professor of European and International Politics at the Université Catholique in Lille), Dr. Riccardo Alcaro (Head of the Global Actors Programme at the Instituto Affari Internatzionali), Dr. Marek Dabrowski (Co-Founder and Fellow at CASE, Non-Resident Scholar at Bruegel, Visiting Prof. at CEU) and Dr. Luigi Scazzieri (Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for European Reform).
