with Colonel d.G. Dr. Markus Reisner
03.10.24 / Vienna
The Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES), in cooperation with the Vienna School of Internationale Studies (DA), hosted the event “Ukraine: The overall strategic situation and its regional perspective” on October 3, 2024.
The keynote speech was given by Colonel d.G. Dr. Markus Reisner (Head of the Institute for Officer Training at the Theresian Military Academy). He provided comprehensive reports and assessments on the current war situation in Ukraine and the course of the fighting to date. He particularly emphasized the role of Europe and the threat that the multifaceted Russian warfare also poses to Austria's security. In his speech, he emphasized the risks and the necessary measures that Europe must take to ensure its security - and that this is only possible through a common strategy. He also emphasized that security and defence policy must be given more weight on the political agenda in Austria in the future.
Ambassador Dr. Martin Sajdik was also invited to contribute further assessments, in particular on the role of Belarus and its position vis-à-vis Russia.
The event was moderated by Dr. Fasslabend (AIES President), who concluded by summarizing the most important points from the presentation and the discussion and also gave guests the opportunity to ask the speakers questions.
