Benjamin Zyla, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in the School of International Development & Global Studies (EDIM) at the University of Ottawa. Prior to that, he held a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) postdoctoral fellowship at the Centre for International Relations at Queen’s University.

He holds Bachelor degrees from Sweden and Germany, an M.A. in Political Science from Carleton University (Ottawa, 2003), and a Ph.D. in War Studies (as a civilian) from the Royal Military College of Canada (Kingston, 2008). Prior to coming to Queen’s, he held fellowships at the University of Ottawa and Stanford University, California.

Benjamin Zyla is also a collaborator in the SSHRC Strategic Knowledge Cluster “Canada-Europe Transatlantic Dialogue” ($2.1 Mio over 7 years), and a member of the research node on “The EU and Canada as global actors in international conflict management” (both hosted by Carleton University, Canada).

His research interests are at the intersection of international relations (specifically international organizations and international security studies), global governance, foreign policy analysis, and transatlantic affairs.
