Stefan Pacher joined the AIES as a Research Intern in May 2025.

Stefan is a master’s student in International Development at the University of Vienna. Prior to that, he studied Slavonic Studies and the Russian language. His areas of focus include peace and conflict studies, international relations, human rights, as well as democracy and development in Eastern Europe.
As part of his master’s thesis, Stefan is researching identity, belonging, and political participation among Russian-speaking minorities in the post-Soviet space.
Stefan has worked as a Political Intern for the U.S. Mission to the OSCE, where he wrote official U.S. statements for delivery at the OSCE's Permanent Council, represented the U.S. Mission at human rights and Ukraine-focused events, and contributed to international peace and mediation efforts. Stefan served in the Austrian Military Police for several years as a non-commissioned officer.
