Michael joined the AIES as a research intern in September 2024.

He holds a B.Sc. degree in Geography from Bonn University and a Master’s degree in International Development from the University of Vienna. He has been a researcher at the Heidelberg Institute for International Conflict Research (HIIK) since June 2024 at has contributed to publications by the Central European Institute for Asian Studies (CEIAS).

His interests lie in Russian external policy and the Middle East, having written his Master’s thesis on the Russian intervention in the Syrian Civil War. Another area of interest is the Indo-Pacific region and the growing rivalry between the USA and an emerging China in this region.
