David Jaklin is an Alumni of the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz, where he not only obtained his doctorate in History, but also the university's political sciences certificate.

Since 2007 he is researching on armed conflicts, non-state actors as well as small arms and light weapons. His focus is the privatization of security, the phenomenon of mercenaries and its manifestation in society and media reception.

After graduating from his diploma studies in history in 2008, he worked as a freelance historian until he came to Vienna to work as a research assistant at the National Defence Academy, first as a visiting researcher (hybrid power projections) and then as an intern for one year (Analysis Center Syria).

Since Autumn 2013, David Jaklin is a researcher at the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy. His focus lies on the MENA region, arms- and export control as well as the European Union's Defence Research.

David Jaklin is a longtime contributor to the Journal for Intelligence Propaganda and Security Studies.
