Matthias Helf is a Master's student of Peace and Security Studies at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy Hamburg (IFSH). He previously completed a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Media Studies in Tübingen.

His studies focus on Russian foreign and security policy, the Russian military and relations between the European Union and Russia. He has already worked on Russia's foreign and security policy and the Russian armed forces as an intern at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP). He also works as a research assistant at IFSH on international climate security policy.

In his Master's thesis, Matthias Helf deals with the transformation of Russia's foreign and security policy role against the backdrop of the Russian war against Ukraine.
