Das neu gewählte Europäische Parlament tritt in diesen Tagen zum ersten Mal zusammen. Trotz eines erneuten Rekordtiefs bei der Wahlbeteiligung (43 Prozent) steht das neue Parlament arbeitsfähig in den Startlöchern. Jetzt zur Tagesordnung überzugehen, wäre jedoch erneut eine verpasste Chance für die Perspektive einer europäischen Demokratie. AIES Associate Fellow Almut Möller plädiert dafür, genauer hinzusehen: Welche Lehren können aus den Europawahlen 2009 gezogen werden?

The newly elected European Parliament is convening for the first time this week. Despite another record low turnout in the June 2009 elections (43 per cent), the new Parliament is about to go back to business as usual. But this would be another missed opportunity for the perspective of a European democracy. AIES Associate Fellow Almut Möller therefore recommends to have a closer look at the results of the 2009 European elections.
