Christian Leuprecht, Ph.D.

Curriculum Vitae


Christian Leuprecht researches the political, security, economic, cultural and social implications of demographic change, including the impact on grand strategy, civil-military relations, the defence and security sector, extremism among expatriate diasporas, the onset and diffusion of internecine conflict and violence, as well as democratic, federal, and multi-level governance. He is associate professor of political science and public policy at the Royal Military College of Canada. He holds cross-appointments to the Department of Political Studies as well as the School of Policy Studies at Queen's University where he is also adjunct chair of Defence Management Studies, a Fellow at both the Institute for Intergovernmental Relations the Queen's Centre for International Relations.

In 2009-2010 he was the Bicentennial Visiting Associate Professor at Yale University, has been visiting professor at the Swedish National Defence College and has held fellowships from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the University of Pennsylvania and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis.  He holds a Ph.D. from Queen’s University, a D.É.A. from the Institut d'Études Politiques at the Université Pierre Mendès-France in Grenoble, and Master's degrees in political science and French from the University of Toronto where he also read for my B.A.(Hons.).

He is author of almost a dozen books and numerous articles on diversity as well as recruitment and retention among armed forces, international stability operations, multilevel governance, fiscal federalism, comparative federalism, and the Canadian constitution.
